What Jompter is
A tool for describing a change to an AI assistant, without typing it all out.
Jompter is a macOS app that turns speech, screenshots and screen recordings into one Markdown prompt for an AI coding assistant such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT. Transcription, the language models behind its text transforms, and the voice that reads replies back can all run on the Mac itself, so a prompt can be assembled with no API key and no network. It needs Apple Silicon and macOS 13 Ventura or later.
The reason it exists: you are working with an agent and you need to explain a bug. Typing it out takes five minutes; saying it takes twenty seconds. Jompter is the app that closes that gap.
Four ways in, one prompt out
| Input | What it is |
|---|---|
| Dictate | Hold Right ⌘ anywhere in macOS, talk, release. The text lands in whatever app you are in, and on the clipboard too. Or tap Right ⌥ to talk hands-free. → |
| Snap | ⌘⇧S drags a box on screen; ⌘⇧F takes the whole screen the pointer is on. The screenshot goes into your prompt with a reference you can point at — and one taken while you talk lands between the words you were saying. → |
| Record | Record a screen region. Jompter samples the frames, throws away the near-duplicates, transcribes the audio, and compiles a repro. |
| Draw | A whiteboard you can sketch on — or hand to an AI agent to draw on for you. |
Everything you capture accumulates in one prompt. Copy prompt gives you Markdown; Copy image gives you the Markdown and the image files, so a single paste into Claude.ai attaches everything.
A prompt can also become a list of to-dos. Connect an AI agent to Jompter and it reads the prompt, screenshots included, proposes the work, and ticks items off as it goes — but it only starts what you have approved. →
There is one more thing that goes the other way: Speak reads the assistant's wall of text back to you, in your language, out loud.
On your Mac, or in our cloud
Jompter runs in one of two modes, and you can switch at any time from the pill in the header.
- Local — speech recognition, the language model and speech synthesis all run on your Mac. Works with the Wi-Fi off. You download the models once.
- Cloud — the work happens on our servers. Nothing to download, works in the first second, needs internet.
Local mode is free for everyone. Cloud mode needs a cloud subscription — see Plans and access.
What Jompter is not
- It is not a code editor or an AI assistant. It prepares the prompt; your assistant does the work.
- It is macOS only, Apple Silicon only. There is no Windows or Intel build — the website has a waitlist for Windows.
- Your prompts, screenshots, recordings and dictation history stay on your Mac. Nothing syncs except boards, and only if you turn that on.
