Troubleshooting Remote
Black screen, missing Mac, sluggish session — in the order worth checking.
Why is my Mac not in the Jompter Remote list?
- Is Jompter running on the Mac? It is not enough for it to be installed — and remember that closing the window only hides it.
- Is Remote turned on there? Settings → General → Remote, or the master switch on the Remote page.
- Are both devices signed in to the same account?
- Pull down to refresh the list.
- Check the connectivity indicator in Settings — if the servers are unreachable, nothing else will work.
Why is the screen black after I connect?
This is almost always a permission, and none of them produce an error message.
- Local Network on the phone. iOS Settings → Jompter Remote → Local Network. This is the single most common cause.
- Screen Recording on the Mac. →
- Is the display you are viewing paused in the Displays tab?
Why do my taps do nothing on the Mac?
The Mac has Screen Recording (so you can see it) but not the input permissions.
Grant Accessibility and Remote input on the Mac — they are two separate permissions in the same System Settings pane, and Remote input is the one that authorises sending keystrokes. See Permissions.
Why is the Remote session slow, blurry or stalling?
- Are both devices on the same network? Off-network sessions go through a relay, which is slower — and if relaying is not available the app will say it is same-network only.
- Switch the quality preset to Saver in Displays.
- Pause displays you are not looking at.
- Open the session stats overlay to see what the connection is actually delivering.
Why can't I sign in to Jompter Remote?
Check the connectivity indicator in Settings. If the servers are reachable, reset your password on jompter.com — the sign-in screen has the link.
Why does Remote refuse to start when everything else works?
The free tier allows one 10-minute Remote session a day. If you have used today's, the phone cannot connect until tomorrow; a licence, a cloud subscription or a beta grant removes the limit. Check Billing.
Why does tapping my Mac do nothing, or the picture go blank?
Most often the Mac went to sleep. A sleeping Mac cannot be woken from your phone — there is nothing running to answer, and no way to reach it over mobile data.
On the Mac, open the Remote page and set Don't sleep (the default). That keeps it awake for as long as Remote is switched on. Closing the lid still sleeps it either way; see Hosting on the Mac.
If the Mac is awake and you still get a blank picture, it is a connection problem rather than a sleep one — see the screen is black.
Does the session drop when I change network?
It should not any more. Moving between Wi-Fi and mobile data breaks the connection underneath, and the app now reconnects into the same session rather than treating the break as the session ending — you may see a pause of a second or two.
Earlier builds sent you back to the device list whenever this happened, and once it had happened the session could not be rejoined at all.
If you are still returned to the list, tap the Mac again; there is nothing to lose but the reconnect.
How do I end a Remote session?
Any of three things ends a live session outright — the picture stops, and so do the mouse, keyboard and capture:
- End session on the Mac's Remote → Status card.
- Turning the master switch off on the same card.
- Removing the device from your account on the web.
In builds before this page, only End session worked: the other two stopped the video and left input flowing. If your Mac is older than that, end the session explicitly first.
