Privacy Policy

Last updated August 18, 2026 4 min read Covers macOS app · iPhone app · website

This Privacy Policy explains how Jompter ("we", "us") handles information when you use the Jompter macOS app, the Jompter Remote iPhone app, and our website. Jompter is built local-first: by default your work stays on your Mac, and data only leaves your device when you choose to use an optional cloud feature.

The short version

Not a substitute for the full policy
  • Your work stays on your Mac. Recordings, transcripts, screenshots and prompts are created and stored locally. We don't upload them or have access to them.
  • Cloud is opt-in. Only the audio or text for that one request goes to the provider that powers it. Never used to train models.
  • Remote is peer-to-peer. Screen, audio and input travel encrypted between your phone and your Mac. Our servers never see your screen.
  • No ads, no data sales. No advertising cookies. The website uses product analytics; the apps carry no analytics SDK.
  • We store your account. Name, email, a hashed password, and your sessions and paired Macs so you can revoke them.
  • Delete it any time. Deleting your account removes it and everything tied to it. An admin log line expires after 90 days.

01Information we collect

  • Account data. When you create an account we store your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
  • On-device content. Your audio recordings, transcripts, screenshots, annotations, and prompts are created and stored locally on your Mac. We do not upload or have access to this content.
  • Session and device data. For each signed-in session we store a device label, the IP address, the browser or app user agent, and a coarse location derived from that IP, so you can see and revoke your sessions. For a paired Mac we store a machine identifier, its display count, and the OS and app versions; for a remote viewing session we store its start and end time, the viewer's IP, and how much data was relayed.
  • Cloud usage metadata. If you use cloud transcription or AI transforms, we record metering metadata (request counts and timestamps) to enforce your plan limits. This metadata does not include the contents of your transcripts or prompts.

02Local-first by default

Transcription runs on-device using a local Whisper model and works fully offline. Nothing is sent to our servers or any third party unless you explicitly opt into a cloud feature.

03Jompter Remote (iPhone)

Jompter Remote shows and controls a Mac you own. The screen, audio, and input travel directly between your phone and your Mac over an encrypted peer-to-peer connection — our servers pass only the messages needed to set that connection up and never see your screen. When a direct connection is impossible, the encrypted stream is carried by a relay that cannot read it. The camera is used only to scan the pairing code shown on your Mac, and the microphone only to send dictation audio to your Mac, which transcribes it there. Neither is recorded or stored by us.

04Cloud features and AI providers

Cloud transcription and AI transforms are opt-in. When you use them, only the data needed for that specific request — the audio or text you are processing — is sent to the provider that powers it: ElevenLabs for cloud transcription and DeepSeek for AI transforms. We do not sell your content, and we do not use it to train models. If you use on-device models or your own Ollama / local endpoint instead, your content never leaves your Mac.

WhoWhat they receiveWhen
ElevenLabsThe audio you send for cloud transcriptionOnly when you use cloud transcription
DeepSeekThe text you send for an AI transformOnly when you use an AI transform
Payment processor (see Payments)Your card and billing detailsOnly when you buy or subscribe
PostHogWebsite page views and feature usageOn the website only, never in the apps

05Payments

Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our payment processor and merchant of record. Your payment card details are handled by Lemon Squeezy — we do not receive or store full card numbers.

06Cookies and authentication

On the website and in the apps we use authentication tokens (such as JWTs) solely to keep you signed in. We use no advertising cookies and sell no data. The website uses PostHog for privacy-focused product analytics — page views and feature usage, to understand how the site is used. PostHog sets one first-party analytics cookie (named ph_*) and stores a matching value in your browser’s local storage, so repeat visits are recognised as the same session. It is not used for advertising and is never shared or sold. The apps carry no analytics SDK.

07Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. On-device content is retained on your Mac until you delete it. You can delete your account at any time — in the iPhone app under Settings → Delete account. Deleting removes your account, all of your sessions, your paired Macs and pairing records, your licence and subscription records, and your usage and trial history; an active subscription is cancelled first. We retain only the administrative log of actions taken on the account (which records an account identifier and a one-line summary, not your content), and that log expires after 90 days.

08Your rights

You can access and update your profile, change your password, and delete your account from the apps. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, export, or erase your personal data — contact us to exercise them.

09Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect account data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

10Children

Jompter is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
