Updating Jompter

How Jompter updates on your Mac: a check at launch and every six hours, signed update manifests, and Check now in Settings to update by hand.

Jompter checks for an update when it launches, and again every six hours while it is open, and shows a banner when one is waiting.

To update by hand: the App group in Settings → General shows your current version and a Check now button; when a version is available, Update & restart downloads it with a progress bar. The app verifies the new version's signature, installs it, then closes and opens again on its own — it waits for the old copy to finish quitting first, so the relaunch can take a few seconds.

Update manifests are signed and served from Jompter's own servers, so an update cannot be substituted in transit.

If you installed with Homebrew

Homebrew and the in-app updater are two separate paths to the same build. The in-app updater works either way, but Homebrew's own records only move when you upgrade through it:

brew update && brew upgrade --cask anshuopinion/jompter/jompter

If you let the app update itself, brew list --cask --versions jompter will keep reporting the version Homebrew installed until you run the command above. The app on disk is current either way — it is Homebrew's bookkeeping that lags.

After an update

If Jompter installed the update but did not come back, the settings row says "Update installed — quit and reopen Jompter to finish". The new version is already on disk; open Jompter from Applications and you are on it.

A macOS permission occasionally needs re-granting after an app is replaced — the symptom is a hotkey that silently stops working. Check the Permissions band at the top of Settings → General first; see Permissions for how to clear a stuck one.
